Mark and Amy Peterson
About Us
I joined Bridge Builders Network the summer of 2021. My husband, Mark, and I, and our family live in Arlington, Texas. I am privileged to serve as an extension of Bridge Builders Network in Fort Worth, TX. We moved to Arlington, TX in 2021, with the intention to serve the Muslim community in DFW. This vision was formed out of our belief that God loves people from all nations and that we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Our family moved to Egypt in 2014 for my husband to work for a company there that does engineering and architectural design for needy communities in the region. While in Egypt, we experienced what it feels like to be a foreigner who doesn’t speak the national language. We also noted the large numbers of Sudanese and Syrian refugees who were struggling to provide for their families. After I gained some proficiency in Egyptian Arabic, I coordinated an effort to serve a local Syrian community center in Cairo by offering English classes.
In 2019, we moved to Jordan and Mark and I started to learn Levantine Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. While in Jordan, we served with an NGO there by offering English classes and physical helps to Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
These experiences have prepared us for where we are now, back in our home country, and in an even better position to welcome Muslim refugees and immigrants to America. Amy teaches English to Arabs, and she visits Muslim immigrants and refugees in the community and offers help in navigating forms and systems here in America and finding assistance for families in need.
Leviticus 19:34, “You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
